The Ludwig Museum`s 2010 exhibition of the permanent collection displays works which focus on the complex, conflictual and often ambiguous relationship between aesthetics and politics. Within this vast theme are such concrete topics as the destiny of social and artistic utopias, the functioning of cultural memory, the borders of creativity, the various usages of urban public space, the role of the artist and his/her relationship to politics, etc.

The exhibition of the works by international contemporary artists deals with the European and North-American culture of the 1945–1989 period, in order to present how the atmosphere of the Cold War era with its scientific facts, ideologies or apocalyptic visions has become a deep and inspiring source of artistic creativity and contemporary culture.
It is possible to visit the installation until the 19th of June 2009. For a visit please register yourself, via email. Send a date and a time when you would like to come!

The artistic concepts behind the works featured at the exhibition have been shaped along the lines of motivation which changes social and human situations. Change, the possibility for change, becomes achievable as a result of a gesture, a minimal measure of intervention, on the part of the artist. It is just sufficient to flash us a glimpse of the imagined, if only for a moment, while also placing reality in a new light, and, in a sense, building a bridge between the two.
